Common Opinions: (Amalgamation)
Ad Decimum
~Nobility: They are an odd people, both weak, and inept. They hide in books while refusing to deal with any of the problems this world has to offer.
~Peasantry: Eh? I hear they be smart fellows. Most of them can even read!
~Military: Hahahaha! Aside from a few frail wizards what army do they boast? Were we so inclined we could conquer them without thought.
~Clergy: They are heretics who have yet to be brought to justice. They cling to forbidden texts like a wench clings to her diseases.
~Mercantile: We don't have many opportunities to trade, but Ad Decimum is actually a great place to get some good deals on spell scrolls and rare texts.
~Bandits: Them book worms make easy targets. All their knowledge just gets in the way.
Amalgamation
~Nobility: We are the finest breed of people in all of the world. Countless nations look to us for guidance, and under our banner we will one day create unity between all nations of man.
~Peasantry: Well... The rich get richer off the sweat and blood of the poor. That's how it is everywhere. That's how it is here.
~Military: We have expanded to the point where we have enemies on every border, but worst of all, we have a great deal of internal strife. The soldiers do what we can, but unless the clergy and nobility start working together, I only anticipate things getting worse.
~Clergy: Our nation is enlightened to the will of the Chorus. Only here will you find people descended from countless nations, all working together in harmony.
~Mercantile: It's a tricky place. The nation is so big that even talking about it requires you to ask about which part. In general, poverty is high, but some folks are also abundantly rich. I do have one piece of advice though. -Stay out of politics.
~Bandits: Rob the Church! Rob the Royalty! They've abused us for too long! Now its the time for us to rise up against the oppressors!!!
Celestial
~Nobility: Ah, the bright demons. I enjoy them in artwork, particularly when a brave knight is running their sword through its chest.
~Peasantry: The bright demons! Get em away! If you are even seen near one, even if it doesn't kill you, the inquisition will. They don't tolerate anyone lending them some aid.
~Military: Celestials have been forced out of the Amalgamation a long time past. We know how to kill them, and beg for the opportunity to show them how.
~Clergy: Vile demons. They have put on the skin of the divine to trick and tempt the less stern of faith into believing them to be less wicked then they are. Do not be tempted into their false offers of friendship, and do not let your steely guard down. Kill them where they are found.
~Mercantile: Heh. Any trade with anyone who ain't human puts your neck in the noose. I'll pass.
~Bandits: Eh? The only good demon is a dead demon. What's a celestial?
Celestine Empire
~Nobility: They are misguided peers. They believe in false gods, and shield the lesser nations from our guiding hand. We've been at peace with the Celestine Empire for some time, though to say we are allies is simply not true. Our relationship is frequently....strained.
~Peasantry: That nation be led by a beautiful witch. She uses her flesh to tempt the kings of weaker nations into demonic pacts to which there is no escape. Sounds scary.
~Military: We have problems all over. Fortunately for us, they aren't added to that list. That means that our forces can be used to deal with the Nadine, the Coatl, the Vicaul, Bandits, and our other internal struggles.
~Clergy: I truely believe that the Celestines are good and can be saved. They only need give up their false religion and embrace the learned wisdom of the Church. In time this shall come to pass.
~Mercantile: We do some trade with them, but its highly regulated and can get you into some troubled spots. The inquisition monitors trade through the borders very heavily.
~Bandits: Yeah, we know they're alright. I hear they treat their peasants decent too. But as pretty as it is over there, it just goes to show how bad it is here. We ain't getting no help from anyone but us. We gotta deal with our own problems.
Cestral
~Nobility: Cestral holds fertile lands ripe for us. In time we will call their nation our own.
~Peasantry: You ever see a horse or falcon from there? Smartest and most beautiful animals you'll ever see. They're good folk too. The nicest nobles I've ever met live there.
~Military: Cestral relies on us for a great deal. Unfortunately there is only so much protection we can offer them. If we extend our border to include them, maybe we'll be permitted to lend more aid their way against the Vicaul.
~Clergy: Many of them cling to the old ways, but we have already started missions in Cestral for those wishing to make a righteous change. Our presence grows with each passing year, and in time they shall come to hold our faith sacred in their hearts.
~Mercantile: Cestral is too poor to offer any real incentive to trade with them. Also, Dacian merchant houses offer some great trade incentives for some exclusive dealings. Dace, in all ways, is the far better option when it comes to trade.
~Bandits: Now there are some people we can relate to. Poor folk. You know what else? They're good people too! What does that tell you about the nature of money?
Coatl
~Nobility: They are savages with no culture to call their own. They try to intrude upon our peaceful nation. They should be slaughtered to the last.
~Peasantry: The Coatl are scary. They're fast on their horses, and clever....and brutal. I've lost a lot of good friends fighting against them. They'll burn our farms without a second thought as well.... They aren't good folk.
~Military: The Coatl are skilled and brutal. On open terrain they are an opponent to be feared, but they could never mount a siege, nor face a shield wall. Unfortunately they employ such hit and run tactics that they are a difficult to pin down. If our forces weren't so tied up elsewhere, we'd finish them off, once and for all.
~Clergy: These Demon worshipers have been our enemy always. We have stripped them of the power of their dark gods, and now must deliver the final stroke against them. It has been a long time coming.
~Mercantile: Again... Trading with an enemy of the Amalgamation isn't the brightest of ideas.
~Bandits: They burn our fields and kill anyone who gets in their way. Sounds like what happens when we're late on our taxes, eh?
Cole
~Nobility: There is something irresistible about the nobles of that place. They're all scoundrels, but they have a confidence to them that is to be admired. They add color to an otherwise dark world.
~Peasantry: Never play cards with folks from those regions. They'll take ya for everything.
~Military: A lot of criminals flee from here to Cole. As such, Amalgamation soldiers are rarely welcomed.
~Clergy: It is a place of sin, where people gamble away their lives. They are lost, and our church's voice does not carry there.
~Mercantile: It is a good enough port, but too far away for us to do much trade with them. It is a good spot for obtaining more....controversial things.
~Bandits: Now there is a place of paradice! Laid back folk, have enough money to get by, and best of all; success there is based on merit, not blood.
Dace
~Nobility: We put up with their type because we must. They are a powerful economic force, but they trade to both you and your enemies.
~Peasantry: They're a rich bunch. Every once in a while, I get paid to just tell the Dacians about what's been going on around here. No harm in getting paid for free information. Not like I know any secrets about anything.
~Military: No one is permitted in Dace without an invitation, least of all soldiers. Dace has no army, but they have a formidable fleet. It means everyone has to deal with Dace whether we'd like to or not.
~Clergy: The Dacian's view religion as a pretty thing, but no more. They are a lost people, who believe in nothing but coin and comfort.
~Mercantile: It's impossible to even speak of Trade without Dace being mentioned. They have their hands in everything.
~Bandits: Rich enough to pay taxes is what I say. So why not tax em? Our way. Waylaying one rich Dacian can set a man for life.
Demon
~Nobility: These creatures still lurk about in remote regions. All are deadly and wicked. Should we ever let our guard down, they will return in greater numbers than ever before.
~Peasantry: Shh! Demons can hear you when you speak of their kind. They can even steal your very breath if you utter their name. My advise; -Don't.
~Military: I'd love for another crusade to unite the world. Then we could settle this, once and for all. Evil must be purged.
~Clergy: They are the manifestation of all wickedness. By slaying each, we remove a bit of that evil entirely.
~Mercantile: Stay away from Breach. If the jagged rocks don't get ya, the demons will.
~Bandits: If I were to see a demon, I wouldn't be afraid. I'd walk right up and stab him in the eye. Then I'd say, "HEY! What are YOU looking at?"
Draconic
~Nobility: They were defeated long ago, and served as a test to mankind. As the legends go, we were victorious, and now they lie dead, deep within the mountains and trampled underfoot.
~Peasantry: I hear that alls thats left o' the dragons is lizards now. I aint afraid of no lizard.
~Military: Weapons made of their bones are coveted and frequently inscribed with runes. Few of even the weapons remain.
~Clergy: A winged demon no different than any other.
~Mercantile: I once sold a noble a chicken bone that I claimed was pulled out of a Dragon's side. Heh! They deserve what they get!
~Bandits: Eh?
Elves
~Nobility: I had a feeling we hadn't killed them all. At least now we get to see the legends for ourselves. I wonder if they truly due scream as much as I've heard when you drive a nail through their oh-so-delicate ears.
~Peasantry: I've been called an elf before. Was drunk out of my mind and wore a bucket on my head. I'd love to meet an elf in person. I bet they'd be hilarious!
~Military: The elves of old hid in forests, and attacked at night. When things didn't look good for them, they fled. In short; they're cowards.
~Clergy: A lesser and weaker form of demon. These creatures are the spawn of demon and man, and like any disease, it must be cured.
~Mercantile: Don't spread this around, but elven artifacts or items are in demand. Every noble wants to claim that they're descended from some great war hero of the purifications. By getting a 'battle-won' artifact, we can be sure to give just that impression.
~Bandits: There ain't but one elf I've ever seen, and shes a true lady. Elegant beyond words is what she is. Feel bad for what happened to those folk. Seems like more of the rich picking on the poor.
Fae
~Nobility: What? A more powerfu; version of an elf? Forgive me if I'm not concerned.
~Peasantry: They steal children and replace them with demons that look like the child they stole. Horrible creatures.
~Military: I hear we killed them all. Way back during the crusades. Made short work of them too.
~Clergy: They are creatures of madness and can invade one's mind forcing you to do all manner of horrible deed.
~Mercantile: Yeah... Fae exist. They steal and move things all the time. Damn fae...
~Bandits: Some say the Fae haunt the forests. Really thats just us. You come here, best be prepared to pay the toll!
Gael
~Nobility: They are barbaric savages who know only war. Fortunately they are one of the few enemies that we don't have to contend with.
~Peasantry: They're savages who eat raw flesh, and bathe in animal blood. I'm just glad they ain't near us.
~Military: The Gael were once a lot more powerful than they are. The Celestine Empire has nearly destroyed their kind.
~Clergy: They are both man and beast, a creature neither our equal, nor our servant. They exist with no role in this world, and so must die.
~Mercantile: What do I need with sticks?
~Bandits: Barbarians. Stupid too from what I hear. I hear they use clubs rather than swords! Imagine that!
Drir
~Nobility: They are the descendants of people we banished a long time past. Let them rot in exile.
~Peasantry: They be witches and warlocks, and cause curses to anyone who runs their way!
~Military: We'll get to them eventually, but they aren't much of a priority right now.
~Clergy: They are the children of sin. One day we will finish the job that we once started.
~Mercantile: I wouldn't even know what to ask for. Do they have merchants?
~Bandits: Can't trust those wizard types. Necro-mancers from what I hear. Can raise the dead. Best keep clear.
Mandala
~Nobility: In many ways we and they are alike. For these reasons we both hate and adore one another.
~Peasantry: Ain't never been there, too far away. They sell tea or somethin?
~Military: Long ago, Mandala was the home of the Blood Chalice. They have that temperament, and a lot happens there that is never seen.
~Clergy: They are a cunning people who must be watched carefully. They have a dark appetite which is not to be ignored.
~Mercantile: Mandala is an excellent place to dock on if you happen to be in that region. A good selection of goods, reasonable prices, and good conversations along the way.
~Bandits: I hear that those girls know their poisons. Anger one of them, and just a sip from their tea will bring ya to yer knees.
Nadine Empire
~Nobility: The Nadine Empire is a brutal place where the weak are slaughtered and abused. They represent everything we are against.
~Peasantry: They burn our towns, slaughter our people, and for what? They don't seem interested in conquest. What do they even have to gain?
~Military: We've tried everything to destroy them, but until our other enemies are defeated and we have the total sum of our force to deal with them, I do not believe that we could overcome the deep entrenchment their cities hold.
~Clergy: These lost and wicked souls feel no guilt at the atrocities they perform. They are even said to use demons, necromancy, and blood magic. It's hard to think of these people as anything but abominations themselves.
~Mercantile: There are rare instances where trade is permitted, but on the whole, if you value your life, I'd advise against trading with them. Murder is legal in the Empire.
~Bandits: Bloody bleeding bastards! They use our people as a bleeding training excercise! They're the worst!
Saek
~Nobility: Were we ever to once again war against the demons in a grand crusade, the Saek would be our first ally. We have little in common, but our hate for demon kind would bind us together.
~Peasantry: I hear that they be stubborn bastards who won't leave their homeland till all the demons are dead. Good going I say. I'd defend my home too!
~Military: The Saek distrust everyone for good reason. Even the humans they encounter are typically minions of the demons, Dacians, or imperials. All of those spell disaster for any Saek encountering them.
~Clergy: The Saek have been forced down a dark road. If they are left without aid forever, it may be a journey from whence they shall never return.
~Mercantile: I tried to trade with them once, but the Saek are always on the move. We lost a lot of money for nothing to show from it.
~Bandits: They're kindred spirits. Passionate, deadly, and always outnumbered.
Castle Thorn
~Nobility: These men are champions in the eyes of the world. They sacrifice every bit of themselves to keep all the nations safe.
~Peasantry: Crusaders are what we call em. Yeah, we know they ain't part of any crusade, but they got the spirit.
~Military: The armies of the Thorn are our deepest allies, though it pains us that we cannot more directly support them. They always have an honored place here should their emissaries ever visit.
~Clergy: They do not acknowledge our faith as their own, but their actions speak differently. They have been ever vigilant, and fight the darkness day in, and day out.
~Mercantile: Whenever we can, we deliver arms and armor to them. Unfortunately our ships rarely sail that far west.
~Bandits: They're as stubborn as we are! Won't take 'no' for an answer. Not any more!
Vein
~Nobility: They're savages, but at least they're -our- savages.
~Peasantry: They're stout warriors who do a lot to protect us from the Vicaul. Serious folk, but I like em.
~Military: The Vein have been afforded many privileges that other conquered nations have never received. Because their fight against us was honorable, and that in the end they discovered the will of the Church, the Vein retain their identity apart from the Amalgamation. They have been embraced as a part of us. -Our northern arm.
~Clergy: Many of the Vein cling to their former religion. As such we must be indulgent with our use of the Inquisition in those regions. Some Vein themselves have even become inquisitors and are our must fervent warriors against all forms of Dark Magics.
~Mercantile: The Vein and the Amalgamation are one and the same. Our economies are linked, and both our cultures have benefited. We gain their steel, strength, and stone, and they gain our knowledge and wisdom.
~Bandits: They're giants of men, and powerful too, but far too serious. They need to lighten up a bit.
Vicaul
~Nobility: They are barbarians who sail. -Scavengers who can only exist by raiding the weak. In time when our walls keep them out entirely, they will have no one to rob, and as such will wither and die.
~Peasantry: The vultures of the north. The Vein keep a lot of our nation safe, but the eastern shores still get hit. I still remember seeing smoke...and then the slaughter.
~Military: The Vicaul are a threat but not our most immediate one. We have few ways to retaliate against them until our resources get freed, but until then, we do what we can to protect our villages.
~Clergy: They pray to their heathen gods, and worship the sea and storms. We shall see who's faith is stronger.
~Mercantile: Trade with the Vicaul simply involves them taking everything you own...And then killing you.
~Bandits: They're bandits of the sea, sure, but they do everything through brute force. We have more style.
